ABOUT

One day as summer was winding down and school had begun to set in, Melina from Reading Vacation, tweeted to see if anyone was interested in doing a feature on her blog celebrating young bloggers from ages 12-17. HD from Reading, Writing, Breathing, who was new to the world of blogging, messaged her and was interested in being a part!

As time went on (not that much time, really, it just sounds all passionate and intense this way) Melina messaged HD and said she was planning to feature one young blogger per week on Reading Vacation. HD was so ready! But wait, Melina messaged HD and said she wished she could expand the Young Bloggers Unite feature on her blog beyond just a post a week.

Well, here is where you would say HD had a "light-bulb" moment. He messaged back with wide eyes  and suggested a totally separate blog just for young bloggers. This new blog would feature young bloggers, have guest posts, show off fun videos, host giveaways, and even debate books and other topics.  It is all with the idea that young bloggers need to come together and UNITE in one place.

And that place is HERE!

So it began! Melina and HD spent the next three weekends up until midnight, slaving away on the computer, contacting young bloggers, organizing posts, contacting a blog designer, talking to publishers and authors. Yes, this is what young bloggers do with their evenings. And then, they recruited the help of Austin from Reading Teen to be in charge of videos and the YouTube channel. After a long three weeks, Young Bloggers Unite was launched!

After a couple of months of incredible Young Bloggers Uniteness, it was slowly coming to be more and more work. With Melina and HD already doing their own personal blogs respectively, the pressure of work was getting to be too much for them. These guys were keeping up with school, sports, Young Bloggers Unite and their own blogs, while still making time for friends and family. After awhile of this, it all just became too much. So, they decided to step down from their positions at Young Bloggers Unite and in their places, Austin and Cat stepped in. Cat is a book blogger from Books4Hearts and who also does a personal blog, Insanely Cat.

And now, YBU is the place where young bloggers from over come to blog about anything they want!

Cat from Books4Hearts

HELLO. I'm Cat. I started blogging in February of 2009 when I founded Books4Hearts with two of my friends, though not super seriously until the beginning of this year. It's grown to be something I immensely enjoy. Sharing my passion for all things reading through there has made me love reading even more! I'm super-psyched to work on YBU with Austin and all you other fellow young bloggers!

I'm 15 years old, an aspiring author/journalist/editor, one of those 'weird' homeschoolers, a music listener, obviously an avid reader, caffeine addict, and an occasionally (okay, fine, often) random person. I read, write, cook, sing, drink coffee, organize things, use far too many adverbs, do homework (x1000, haha), hang out with friends, spend time with family, and repeat-- basically. Sometimes I tweet (@CatBooks4Hearts) and sometimes I also blog at my personal blog, Insanely Cat. That's pretty much all. Yayyyyyyy. Bye!

Austin from Reading Teen

Hey, I'm Austin! I first started to really get into reading when I was about eight years old, when I started to get interested in Harry Potter. So, for the past six years, I've been a reading fanatic. Harry Potter, to this day is my favorite book series; I've read it fourteen times.

Almost two years ago, my mom and her friend start a book reviewing blog called Reading Teen. Around that time was when I really started to get into writing, so I became a part of the team and have been a book reviewer ever since.

I'm fourteen now, and some might think that my opinion on reading and writing has changed a lot as I mature. Trust me, it has. I have read a lot of different things than what I used to, and I really enjoy it. But, that doesn't change my love for fantasy and sci-fi books.

Some more miscellaneous information about me: I love cinematography. One of my favorite hobbies is shooting and editing videos. I also love card tricks, Arnold Palmer beverages, the Dallas Cowboys, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
